Political Designs

I am into week seven in my Digital Publication class. We were assigned a Midterm Project to design a political campaign. This assignment gave me the opportunity to really dive in and use InDesign more hands on.

We learned about the guidelines and basics of political designs and what should and should not be included. Most of the designs are kept minimal so the viewer remembers what is being seen. A campaign usually sticks to one color scheme and logo throughout the election.

I created a campaign for a mayor by the name of Luca Cruz. My designs included a 3x3 Button, 5 x 7 Color Ad, 5 x 7 Black and White Ad, and 24” x 18” Outdoor Sign. I began by writing down my ideas and visualizing the design. The first design created was the Button, and I used the same concept throughout. The farther I got along in my process, the more it improved. I found myself going back to the previous designs and making changes. There were small detail edits in between that made the design more captivating. The color scheme that I used include blue, white, red, and black. I used a millennial logo to make it more modern and kept the overall design clean. My logo is a two-finger peace sign with a patriotic flag background. It represents peace and 2022.  I incorporated my favorite typeface “Helvetica”. Helvetica is a sans serif typeface that is used by government agencies. Helvetica was designed by Max Miedinger in 1957. If you’d like to learn more about Max Miedinger and Helvetica here is a video you can watch! Max Miedinger
