Adobe InDesign Tips

There are endless tips and tricks out in the design world that can make your design process easier. They are hidden most of the time and will only be known upon word of mouth or exploring a program. I am excited to share some tips that I have found useful! This week in my Publication Design and Production class I learned eleven different tips that make the program Adobe InDesign easier and productive. My favorite tip that I found interesting was the ability to easily change the effects on a frame selecting “fx” from the effects panel. It is very convenient and gives you the opportunity to explore with the different effects improving your overall design. There was a stroke tip effect that I enjoyed and will be using in future designs. Indesign can create your own stroke styles. An example of a rainbow and feet stroke were shown. I am now curious to play around and see what other hidden strokes it may contain!

We were given an assignment and challenge to design a greeting card. I visited a local retail store and walked down the card isle for inspiration. The first thing I looked at when selecting a design was the typeface and colors used, each card conveyed its own message, it felt like a personality. Then, I looked at the use of space in each of the designs. I chose to design a Christmas card. My design was minimal, I used the right amount of space and contained a focal point.
