Typography
Hello! My name is Roxanne, and I enjoy the world of design. I recently graduated with a diploma in Interior Design. I am looking to expand my skills and joined a Typography class to shift towards the world of Graphic Design. In my first week of typography, I have learned so much. Typography is more than just a font or typeface; it is art. Type design has been around since the stone age and has drastically changed over time. Type is important because it conveys information and can interpret different moods. Typographic terms were new to me. I am now able to identify the difference between them, and how the terms describe type. I learned the difference between serif and sans serif, and now find myself looking at all the types around me to see if they have the extra stoke. Typeface is a family of fonts; it is like clothing for text. I took a quiz online and found out that I am a Helvetica typeface. Helvetica was designed in 1957. Helvetica is the perfect typeface design; it is a sans serif neutral font that fits any design style. Helvetica is bold and contemporary, just like me! I was shocked to find out that Comic Sans is a big controversy in type. Vincent Connare was inspired by comic books, and designed Comic Sans in 1994. The casual font was used so much that people began to hate it and now want to ban it. Overall, I will not look at type the same way and I am excited to learn more about it and share my journey with you.
